Application
Overhead lines, sometimes referred to as aerial conductors, are often specified where there are significant distances to cover and where these cables are best positioned far out of reach. The distances to cover, the environmental conditions it will face, and the location are all factors in specifying the appropriate cable. The main classifications of bare conductor are AAC (All aluminum conductor), AAAC (All aluminum Alloy Conductor) or ACSR (aluminum conductor steel reinforced). AAC is most commonly found in urban areas with frequent supports and short spans. It is also used in coastal regions where salt in the air can cause corrosion - the all aluminum wire providing corrosion resistance - and specified for use in the railway industry for OHL electrification. AAAC tend to be specified where greater mechanical resistance is required and where there is a reduced sag characteristic. The ACSR, with its steel reinforcement provides additional strength and where the spans run for larger distances, such as across rivers. The advantages of AAC, AAAC and ACSR come in their lightweight properties. These overhead lines have no specified voltage rating - it will depend on the type of installation - although the higher corona limit of ACSR makes it beneficial when used with high voltage and extra-high voltage transmission. The overhead line wires are manufactured in accordance with various national standards and can be sized appropriately - including GB/T1179 ASTM B231, ASTM B399, IEC 61089, DIN 48201, BS 215, BS 3242, BS EN 50182 and Spanish standard UNE 21.018. etc.

DESCRIPTION
AAC-All aluminum Conductors has the characteristics of simple structure, convenient erection and maintenance, low cost, large transmission capacity, good conductivity, sufficient mechanical strength and high tensile strength. Concentric lay stranded Aluminium Conductors (AAC) are made out of Hard-Drawn aluminum wires. 

APPLICATION
AAC is used mainly in urban areas where the spacing is short and the supports are close. All aluminium conductors are made up of one or more strands of aluminium wire depending on the end usage. AAC is also used extensively in coastal regions because it has a high degree of corrosion resistance.

AAAC -All Aluminum Alloy Conductor

APPLICATION
AAAC is used as a bare overhead conductor for power transmission and distribution lines, on aerial circuits that require a larger mechanical resistance than AAC, and a better corrosion resistance than ACSR. The sag characteristics and the strength-to-weight ratio of AAAC is better than both AAC / ACSR.

DESCRIPTION 
Concentric lay stranded Aluminium Alloy Conductors (AAAC) are made out of high strength Aluminium-Magnesium-Silicon Alloy.

APPLICATION
Used as bare overhead transmission conductor and as primary and secondary distribution conductor and messenger support. ACSR offers optimal strength for line design. Variable steel core stranding enables desired strength to be achieved without sacrificing ampacity. 

DESCRIPTION 
Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) is concentrically stranded conductor with one or more layers of hard drawn aluminium wire on galvanized steel wire core. The core can be single wire or stranded depending on the size. Additional corrosion protection is available through the application of grease to the core or infusion of the complete cable with grease.
